Noomi Rapace's Latest Film from the 'Millennium' Series
Nordic cinema is known for its intention to portray the depths of the human psyche with realistic depictions. From Norway, a Nordic country, comes the psychological thriller 'Child Call.'
The film is directed by Pål Sletaune, who won the Critics' Week Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival for his debut film 'Junk Mail' (1997) and garnered attention for his unique visuals and psychological portrayal in the 2005 erotic horror film 'Next Door,' about a man tormented by mysterious sisters.
The protagonist, Ana, is played by Noomi Rapace, known for the global hit 'Millennium' series. This is her latest work since her Hollywood debut in 'Prometheus' (2011).
Ana, haunted by her past, constructs a world of fear within herself
Oslo, Norway. Fleeing her husband's abuse, Ana and her 8-year-old son, Anders, move into a suburban apartment under a protection program. Still anxious, Ana installs a "child call" audio monitor in her son's bedroom to ensure his safety while he sleeps.
One night, she is awakened by a child's scream. When she goes to his room, her son is sleeping soundly. Knowing that the monitor can sometimes pick up sounds from other rooms due to interference, she suspects that another child may have been murdered in an adjacent room.
Meanwhile, one day Anders tells Ana that his father came to school. Memories of her ex-husband's abuse towards their child and images of the neighbor's child's murder begin to blur in her mind. She starts to rely on a kind electrician for help, but—.
Ana, fearing the circumstances she faces and enduring them, constructs a world of terror within herself. Her plight stirs our empathy and imagination, drawing us into her psychological landscape. Experience this "mental" thriller that will captivate your senses.
