Renowned Directors Discuss the Appeal of Film and Digital



For nearly 100 years of film history, celluloid was the sole recording format. However, with the rise of digital cinema over the past two decades, film prints are now becoming a rarity. "Side by Side: The Future of Film" examines the digital revolution in cinema, offering a panoramic view of the present where digital and analog coexist.

In the film, renowned directors appear one after another at Keanu Reeves' invitation. James Cameron, whose CG-heavy films like "Titanic" achieved great success, states, "I wanted to try everything that wasn't possible with film to realize my imagination. The advent of digital felt like opening a door to new possibilities."

Conversely, Christopher Nolan, director of "Inception" and "The Dark Knight," argues for the merits of film: "While digital media offers seemingly attractive possibilities, they lack substance. If you compare it to cookies, they're soft and delicious when freshly baked, but after a few months, they taste terrible and are inedible."
