A Story of a Man Dedicated to Baseball His Entire Life: "Trouble with the Curve"

Clint Eastwood, a filmmaker, makes his return to acting in "Trouble with the Curve," his first role in four years, which will be released nationwide on Friday, November 23rd. This film marks the directorial debut of Robert Lorenz, Eastwood's sole protégé in filmmaking.

Only His Daughter Can Save Her Father from Crisis

Gus (Clint Eastwood), a legendary baseball scout, is losing his sight and can no longer hide the effects of aging. Yet, Gus has no intention of retiring, but the team's front office is beginning to question him. The only person who can help Gus in this difficult situation is his only family, his daughter Mickey (Amy Adams). She has no choice but to accompany him on his scouting trips and act as his eyes.

However, their relationship is not good. When Gus's wife passed away, he was not prepared to raise their child as a single father, and they were only able to live together for a short time. For the young Mickey, her father was always a distant figure. And that relationship has not changed even now.

But, reluctantly, and despite Gus's resistance, Mickey agrees to accompany him on his scouting trips. As they are forced to spend time together, they begin to see each other anew, and truths that Gus had never spoken before begin to come to light..

From Mentor to Protégé: Passing on the Soul of Cinema

Director Robert Lorenz was the only one Eastwood officially recognized as a "disciple." Lorenz speaks of his mentor, "There's no better teacher for learning the craft of directing. Clint is old-fashioned in the best sense, and he understands movies better than anyone else."
During filming, Eastwood reportedly watched the monitor as if observing. Lorenz recalls the tense atmosphere on set: "I prepared meticulously. I couldn't show any hesitation for even a moment. Once filming began, he watched me until a certain point, and I felt him assessing my abilities."

Eastwood returned before the camera to pass on the soul of cinema to Lorenz. This marks his return to acting after a four-year absence from his own directorial works, and a remarkable 19-year hiatus from acting in films not directed by himself.

Eastwood comments on his role: "Gus has elements of the various characters I've played before. There are similarities to Frankie Dunn in 'Million Dollar Baby,' and in many ways, he resembles Walt Kowalski in 'Gran Torino.' As long as I'm playing characters my own age, I can bring variations to them, and the characterization comes naturally to some extent."

The role chosen by "the man who dedicated his life to cinema, Clint Eastwood," now 82 years old, is "Gus, the man who dedicated his life to baseball." He responds to his beloved disciple's directorial debut with a performance that mirrors his own life.
