Director Iñárritu's Charisma and Originality Reaffirmed

This film garnered significant attention at the 88th Academy Awards, with Leonardo DiCaprio winning Best Actor, Alejandro G. Iñárritu achieving the rare feat of winning Best Director for the second consecutive year (only the third person in history to do so), and Emmanuel Lubezki winning Best Cinematography for the third year in a row.

DiCaprio, who visited Japan to promote the film ahead of its release, commented, "I've been a big fan of Director Iñárritu for a long time. His special and original filming methods were wonderful. Filming with only natural light within a limited timeframe felt like tackling a theatrical stage, which really got my adrenaline going."

He also expressed his respect for Tom Hardy, with whom he co-starred in 'Inception,' stating, "I believe he is an actor who excels in everything."

THE REVENANT

A Survival Drama Centered on a Legendary Real-Life Figure

A group of hunters journeys along the Missouri River in the untamed American West. Hugh Glass, played by DiCaprio and serving as their guide, is mauled by a bear (grizzly) and left for dead. Abandoned by his companions and with his beloved son's life taken by a traitor, Glass transforms the burning desire for revenge into the will to live and embarks on a harrowing journey of survival...

THE REVENANT

This story is based on the true account of a man who survived a near-death experience during the American frontier era and became a legend. Director Alejandro G. Iñárritu weaves fictional elements into the anecdotes, transforming a journey of vengeance that begins with death into a journey of salvation that questions the meaning of life.

Truth is stranger than fiction. DiCaprio, who delivers a powerful performance as a man possessing extraordinary physical and mental fortitude, remarked, "Glass (the character) is taciturn and has few lines. Perhaps that's why the story transcends language, is easily understood, and has been embraced globally."

A Film Rich with Underlying Messages

The film also depicts the relationship between humanity and nature. DiCaprio, who discussed this theme at length with Director Iñárritu, suggested, "The loss of rich natural environments and traditional cultures due to capitalism is something that continues to happen in the world today," and also touched upon the importance of environmental conservation, an issue he actively supports.

'The Revenant' delves deeply into themes that resonate with empathy. As DiCaprio puts it, "I believe this work is a cinematic masterpiece. It felt less like filming and more like embarking on an epic journey." Viewers, too, are sure to experience an unimaginably profound journey and emotional impact.
