Director Hovard Bustnes Discovers Two Charming and Humorous Grandmothers
The keyword "economic growth" is frequently seen in newspapers and news reports. However, many people might feel they understand it vaguely without ever having deeply considered it. "Shirley & Hinda: The Two Who Were Banned from Wall Street" is a film that will now be shown in Japan, featuring two grandmothers with simple questions about "economic growth." Driven by their curiosity, they repeatedly ask questions, absorb knowledge, and approach the reality of the matter while causing a stir that involves those around them.
The director is Hovard Bustnes, who has previously won the Best Documentary Award at Norway's Academy Awards, the "Amanda Awards." Through "RAGING GRANNIES," an organization composed entirely of grandmothers found in places like America and Canada, he learned of two individuals who were charming, humorous, and never lost their curiosity, no matter their age. He spent five years making this film.
The two women are Shirley and Hinda, grandmothers living in Seattle, seemingly ordinary residents of America. However, what sets them apart is their persistent curiosity, their sincere engagement with the questions they feel, and their unwavering pursuit of answers. As the film progresses, viewers find themselves deeply moved by their actions.
Direct Confrontation with Wall Street's Financial Elite in Pursuit of Satisfying Answers
Shirley and Hinda, best friends for 30 years, live in a quiet corner of suburban Seattle. Their recent topic of conversation has been: "What's the deal with economic growth?"
However, unable to grasp its true nature, they directly question university students, professors, and economic analysts. When they don't receive satisfactory answers, they leave Seattle and head to Wall Street, the center of the global economy, where they crash a dinner attended by financial leaders for a direct confrontation.
Shirley and Hinda roam freely, wherever their electric wheelchairs take them. These two, with the innocent greed of children seeking answers, offer us a chance to reflect on the future of the world.
