An Unprecedentedly Chilling Happy Ending in Film History

In L.A., there are those who intercept police radio calls late at night, speed to accident and crime scenes, and point their cameras at victims before anyone else. They are the freelance news videographers specializing in scoops, known as 'Nightcrawlers'.

They pursue sensational footage with the tenacity of celebrity paparazzi and the predatory hunger of hyenas, crawling through the city streets at night. Then, they sell the acquired footage to TV stations for cash.

This film delves into the underbelly of the television industry, which craves footage that crosses ethical lines for ratings, through the story of a man who becomes a 'Nightcrawler,' and the darkness of modern society that, while condemning such practices, simultaneously demands them.

The protagonist, Lou, is played by Jake Gyllenhaal, known for 'Brokeback Mountain.' He lost weight and immersed himself in the role with unsettling dedication, masterfully portraying the bottomless madness lurking within an ordinary man. The director is Dan Gilroy, known for 'The Bourne Legacy.' He decided to bring his own script to the screen, marking his directorial debut with this film.

A Man Becomes a Scoop-Hunting Paparazzo, Gradually Losing His Grip on Reality

Louis Bloom lives a lonely life with no prospects. He happens to pass by a traffic accident and encounters a freelance news videographer, a 'Nightcrawler,' who specializes in capturing footage of incidents and accidents for scoops. Upon hearing that tragic footage sells well to TV stations, Lou acquires a video camera and a police scanner and rushes to the scene, beginning to film the accident.

The extreme footage he captures sells for a high price to TV stations, but their demands escalate. Eventually, Lou crosses the line to obtain sensational footage that will guarantee ratings.
