Dead Serious: The People Obsessed with the Allure of the Male Genitalia
This film, which gained attention in Iceland in 2011, offers a behind-the-scenes look at the exhibition of representative human penises. It's a peculiar documentary that has garnered attention at film festivals worldwide, hailed as "a shocking piece" (Twitch Film.Com).
The Icelandic Phallological Museum, the world's only institution dedicated to penises, is located in the Icelandic port town of Húsavík. It was opened in 1997 by its founder, Sigurður "Siggi" Hjartarson, as a private museum. Siggi, captivated by the allure of the male organ, has spent over 40 years collecting and exhibiting specimens of penises from various mammals, both marine and terrestrial, native to Iceland. However, a human penis specimen was conspicuously absent.
Two potential candidates for a human penis specimen emerged before Siggi, who wished to "display a human penis at all costs." The Icelandic candidate was a distinguished local figure, Páll Arason, who had relationships with over 300 women. He was a 95-year-old legend of virility.
Then, a cowboy named Tom Mitchell, who named his own son "Elmo," stepped forward as the American contender. Demonstrating an almost fanatical devotion, he even got a tattoo of the American flag, eagerly hoping his penis would be chosen for the specimen.
Men Engage in Fierce Battle for the World's First
The curator of Iceland's unique "Penis Museum," Siggi, had a dream he desperately wanted to fulfill before his death: to exhibit a human penis. Two candidates emerged.
The "Icelandic representative": Páll Arason, 95, a former playboy who had relationships with 300 women. "VS" The "American representative": Tom Mitchell, a middle-aged cowboy who calls his own penis "Elmo." Which penis will ultimately complete the museum's peculiar collection?
