Actress Jeon Do-yeon's portrayal of a maid's instincts and sensuality, leading to a shocking conclusion.

"The Housemaid" is a remake of director Kim Ki-young's 1960 masterpiece "The Housemaid." The original "The Housemaid" depicted betrayal, cruelty, and sexual obsession that surface when a new housekeeper arrives at an upper-class family's home, with uncompromising realism. It caused a significant stir and became a major sensation in Korean society at the time.

Producer Jason Chae stated, "Remaking this film has always been a dream for everyone involved in Korean cinema." Even today, "The Housemaid" is considered a masterpiece and is widely recognized globally. It has influenced many leading Korean directors such as Park Chan-wook, Kim Jee-woon, and Bong Joon-ho, inspiring followers. Furthermore, director Kim's influence is said to extend to globally renowned directors like Roman Polanski and Michael Haneke.

The remade "The Housemaid" features director Im Sang-soo and an ideal cast with both popularity and talent, including Jeon Do-yeon, who won the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival, Lee Jung-jae, and Youn Yuh-jung. It was screened and highly acclaimed in the competition section of the 63rd Cannes Film Festival.

Notably, the mansion serving as the film's setting boasts an unprecedented luxury befitting a top-tier suspense thriller. Eighty percent of the film's scenes were shot within the residence, with a total set area of 2,300 square meters, making it the largest scale in Korean film history. Genuine artworks worth tens of thousands of dollars also make their presence felt. The chandelier, a key interior element in the film, was created for this production by Bae Young-hwan, a recipient of the Korean Culture and Arts Award, adding another highlight.
