Elephant Song: The Film Xavier Dolan Eagerly Sought to Star In

From Xavier Dolan, the brilliant filmmaker and actor captivating the world, comes the psychological drama 'Elephant Song,' in which he stars as a young man admitted to a psychiatric hospital. The film opens on Saturday, June 6th, at Shinjuku Musashinokan and Shibuya Uplink, with a nationwide rollout to follow.

Text by YANAKA Tomomi

Directed by Charles Binamé, a Fellow Quebecois

Hailed globally as a "savior of cinema," Xavier Dolan has earned high praise not only as a director but also as an actor, having started his career as a child performer. Indeed, his recent work in ' Tom at the Farm' where he both directed and sensitively portrayed a young man, is still fresh in our minds.

Upon reading the script for 'Elephant Song,' Dolan declared, "This is me. Let me play this role," and eagerly pursued the part. Now, the film has arrived.

The director is Charles Binamé, a fellow Quebecois from Canada. His trilogy, including 1995's 'Eldorado,' garnered accolades such as the Special Prize at the Cannes Film Festival's Directors' Fortnight.

Michael, a Young Man Holding the Key to His Missing Doctor's Whereabouts

Michael, who has been hospitalized since the age of 14 after his opera singer mother's suicide before his eyes, is the hospital's most problematic patient. One day, his attending physician disappears. Michael is the only one who knows any clues. The hospital director, Green, attempts to question Michael, but the boy deflects with rambling stories about elephants and opera.

He then hints at unsettling truths, such as "She killed my mother" and "He sexually abused me," skillfully drawing Green into a complex web.

The missing psychiatrist and the love-starved young Michael. What is the true meaning behind Dolan's assertion, "This is me"? We urge you to discover it for yourself in theaters.
