Yokan Imbued with the Joy of Sharing Excitement
New yokan created by Toraya in collaboration with ifs Future Lab and three creators are on display at the Toraya Tokyo Midtown store gallery.
This time, Toraya has partnered with three creators: textile designer Reiko Sudo, French designer Gwenael Nicolas, and art director Yoshie Watanabe. Each yokan was crafted with the vision of "a slightly futuristic life with wagashi."

The yokan featuring beautiful, modern graphic stripes is by Ms. Sudo. Its arrangement allows for original patterns to emerge, bringing a textile-like vibrancy to the table. Mr. Nicolas has created a stick-type yokan with a distinctive fan-shaped presentation, while Mr. Watanabe has crafted a transparent yokan containing colorful components. The design, reminiscent of a story, changes its pattern depending on where it is cut.
The venue is the Toraya Tokyo Midtown store gallery, which has enthusiastically hosted various exhibitions related to Japanese culture. Past exhibitions include "Fujisan to Toraya", which showcased wagashi themed around Mt. Fuji, and "Sweet Cat Exhibition", which introduced wagashi inspired by the relationship between cats and Japanese people.
ifs Future Lab, which provides planning support for this exhibition, is an organization that researches and disseminates near-future lifestyles while supporting brand building and product development for companies. They create products and experiences that aim to make life more enjoyable and fulfilling.
During the exhibition period, talk events with the creators will also be held. This exhibition hopes to provide an opportunity for people to feel closer to wagashi. Why not enjoy imagining a "slightly futuristic" scenario of sharing yokan with everyone, while being stimulated by the fresh designs?
