A new landmark essential for Reiwa-era Ginza strolling has arrived within the flagship store of Barneys New York Ginza!
BARNEYS NEW YORK
Since the opening of its Shinjuku store in 1990, "Barneys New York" has captivated countless fashion enthusiasts. While inheriting its tradition, the Ginza flagship store undergoes a significant renovation with a concept of creative challenges for the future. Within the refined space, a distillation of the Barneys essence, is the exquisite cup offered by the newly established cafe area, "Cloud Roaster."

The Premier Shopping Street Reflecting the Cutting Edge of the Era
The term "Gin-bura," used since the Taisho era, literally means to stroll around Ginza. However, another theory suggests a different origin: that "Gin-bura" comes from drinking Brazilian coffee, which was a rarity in Ginza at the time. While the true origin remains unclear, the essence of seeking out the latest trends by walking around Ginza remains the same, both then and now.
The first-floor space, named "UNION SQUARE," will feature limited-time collaboration projects with highly curated brands and artists.
A Cityscape Transformed Since the Lehman Shock
Ginza, a district brimming with long-established department stores and specialty shops offering world-class goods, offered new discoveries with every stroll. However, the landscape of the city dramatically changed as flagship stores of international luxury brands opened one after another from the 2000s, followed by the addition of large fast-fashion stores. Chain stores proliferated throughout the district, forcing many unique specialty shops and restaurants to close or relocate.
The area named "CHELSEA GIFT" offers a selection of items perfect for gifting, from practical cutlery to vibrant art pieces.
Shops Selling and Serving What Can Be Found Anywhere Have No Place in Ginza
Resisting this trend, Barneys New York Ginza Main Store, which opened in 2004, has been supported by a loyal fanbase. Its display windows, which leverage the exterior of the historic Kōkō Building, its spacious layout from the basement to the third floor, and its selection and service that satisfy even the most discerning customers, condensed the very specialness of Ginza itself. Even after more than 20 years, this renovation maintains that core essence, enhancing the items and hospitality that can only be found here.
A newly established cafe area offering high-quality and unique food and drinks, true to the Barneys spirit. It also features original sweets and pastries perfect for souvenirs, available only here.
The Highlight of the Renovation: A Cafe Space Unique to This Location
The cafe area, conceived as a space for respite during shopping, was produced by "Cloud Roaster." To fully bring out the characteristics of rare coffee beans selected from around the world, Japan's leading roasters have gathered to offer a unique cup unlike any tasted before. While cafes within select shops are no longer uncommon, "Barneys Cafe by Cloud Roaster" offers a distinct difference. The combination of high-quality, stimulating shopping and next-generation specialty coffee is poised to become an essential spot for the Reiwa-era "Gin-bura."
To draw out the individuality of carefully selected coffee beans from around the world, charismatic roasters have undertaken the roasting. An innovative program allowing customers to bottle-keep rare coffee beans is also available.
