A Highlight: The Special Exhibition "Takashi Murakami and Murakami House"
Since its founding in 1945, Magazine House has released numerous magazines that have defined their eras, including "Heibon," "anan," "POPEYE," "BRUTUS," "Casa BRUTUS," "Croissant," "Tarzan," "Hanako," and "& Premium."
In the realms of fashion, culture, wellness, and lifestyle, the company consistently proposes values that are a half-step ahead, offering hints for a richer life while staying attuned to readers' endless curiosity.
In collaboration with Ginza Sony Park, which embraces the concept of "a park within the city," visitors can experience the diverse worlds of Magazine House's publications through all five senses. This event aims to be more than just a retrospective; it seeks to provide an experience where attendees can participate, enjoy, and feel a sense of anticipation for the future, launching new movements from Ginza to the cultural scenes of Japan and the world.

The centerpiece of this event is the "Takashi Murakami and Murakami House" special exhibition held on the 3rd floor. Featuring internationally acclaimed artist Takashi Murakami, "Murakami House"—a play on Magazine House—will be exhibited within the Ginza Sony Park space.
"Murakami House" is a prefabricated, mobile structure inspired by the work of architect Jean Prouvé, whose work significantly influenced 20th-century architecture and industrial design.
The design is by VUILD, an architectural startup pioneering next-generation architectural design using digital fabrication technology. By transforming the Magazine House logo, which combines 'M' and 'house,' into a three-dimensional form and then into an actual dwelling, it is elevated into an architectural art piece.
And so, with MAGAZINE HOUSE and MURAKAMI HOUSE equating to MM, the sibling duo MM Brothers, comprising contemporary artist Takashi Murakami and "past artist" Ryuji Murakami (Ryuji Akiyama of Robert), will participate.
In conjunction with this, two "Murakami Houses" have been created: Takashi Murakami's House and Ryuji Murakami's House. Additionally, "Flower House," featuring Murakami's signature flowers rendered in polygons by VUILD, will also be presented. All three structures will be exhibited at Ginza Sony Park and will be available for purchase.
Also on display will be ukiyo-e works by Takashi Murakami, paying homage to Utagawa Hiroshige's "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo" as a new development in Japanese art. These works, previously exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum and Gagosian Gallery in New York, have not yet been shown in Japan. Over 120 prints will be showcased at Ginza Sony Park's "Takashi Murakami and Murakami House." These will also be available for exhibition and sale.
This exhibition is also linked to the feature "Takashi Murakami and Murakami House" in the October 9th issue of "Casa BRUTUS." The cover of the magazine will feature MM Brothers and "Flower House." Please note that "Takashi Murakami and Murakami House" is a ticketed event.
Regarding this exhibition, Takashi Murakami commented, "The content for 'Takashi Murakami and Murakami House' was decided by the editor-in-chief of Casa BRUTUS. To be blunt, while the initial concept was to pay homage to Jean Prouvé's famous mobile architecture, fitting for a magazine about architecture and art, it somehow ended up incorporating comedic elements, pulled along by Mr. Akiyama's energy (laughs). However, I believe it will be an interesting exhibition in that sense too."
Ryuji Murakami (Ryuji Akiyama of Robert) stated, "It's an honor to be part of Magazine House's 80th anniversary, but this is entirely thanks to Mr. Murakami. I had no prior relationship with Magazine House. I'm only here through Mr. Murakami's connections, and I didn't know the editor-in-chief at all. I want to make that clear from the start. So, you might wonder why I'm appearing at Magazine House's 80th anniversary, but is it really okay? It's a truly grateful opportunity. Thank you."
Information regarding the sales of "Murakami House" and artworks will be announced later on theMagazine House Expo Special Website.
Magazine House has shaped eras and cultures through the medium of magazines. This event offers a new cultural experience proposed by Magazine House, allowing visitors to tangibly engage with art. It is an event not to be missed.
