Tamale: A Staple of Peruvian Breakfast

Peruvian dish names possess a charmingly mysterious quality to us Japanese. Take, for example, "tamale," a type of chimaki wrapped in banana leaves. Or "pan francés," freshly baked bread, served with "chicharrón," which is boiled pork belly, then fried. There's also "salsa criolla," a refreshing relish of red onion and cilantro, and a sandwich filled with sweet potato fries. And "chicha morada," Peru's national drink, a beverage made by simmering purple corn with fruits and spices.

Not just the names, but even hearing about the ingredients and cooking methods, it's hard to imagine what these dishes taste like. Yet, experiencing the unknown is precisely the thrill of travel. Whether you've been to Peru or not, embark on a culinary journey to discover a new facet of our world.
