Sharing the Joy of Sake, Together

Sakaya Kurihara: A Specialty Sake Shop

Sakaya Kurihara, a specialty sake shop, has locations in Naruse, Minami, the southernmost town in Tokyo's Machida City, and Moto-Azabu, a hilly district in Minato Ward. The elder brother, the shop owner, graduated from the Department of Fermentation Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Tokyo University of Agriculture, and then learned sake brewing at Fukunishiki Co., Ltd. in Kasai City, Hyogo Prefecture, where he was primarily in charge of koji production. He experienced the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, which prompted him to return to the family business.

His Younger Brother Manages the Sake Bar 'Kuri'

While sake exports to overseas markets are increasing, I believe there is still much to be done and can be achieved within Japan.
Previously, I hosted a sake event for foreigners working in Japan (members of the association) at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan. I also participated in the Tokyo University of the Arts' school festival to share the deliciousness and enjoyment of sake with students. Furthermore, in collaboration with the liquor retailers' association, we conduct campaigns to prevent drunk driving and underage drinking. I also currently serve as the representative director of a long-term aging study group and as a judge for the International Sake Challenge.

Sake Tasting Event Held at the Press Club

His younger brother manages the sake bar 'Kuri.' He renovated the second floor of an apartment building across from the Azabu store of 'Sakaya Kurihara' and launched it as 'a bar for drinkers, by drinkers.' To encourage customers to try a wider variety, sake is served in three sizes: large, medium, and small. He also introduced me to breweries for food pairings. After our father's passing, the bar relocated to Ginza. Currently, in addition to the Ginza location, there is also a branch in Shimbashi.
We invite you to visit and fully immerse yourself in the charm of sake.
