Wajō Waraku | "October 1st is Nihonshu Day Campaign" Event
Let's enjoy sake at Marunouchi House!
Wajowaraku: "October 1st is Sake Day Campaign" Event
October 1st is "Sake Day."
Kanji characters related to alcohol, such as for sake, intoxication, pouring, drunkenness, and brewing, all share the radical "酉" (tori), which is the tenth of the twelve zodiac signs. Furthermore, "酉" is a pictograph representing a "wine vessel" and signifies sake.
Until 1965, the sake brewing year was determined to begin on October 1st. For this reason, breweries celebrate this day as "New Year's Day for Sake Brewing," and October 1st was officially designated as "Sake Day" in 1978.
Wajowaraku (Wajō Waraku), an organization formed by 43 leading breweries and major sake retailers nationwide, also holds various events centered around "Sake Day."
