Irodori Festival for Japan Charity Campaign Launched

Under the theme "Kiss the Earth: A Kiss for People and the Planet," the Isetan Group, which engages in various environmental conservation initiatives, will launch a series of charity campaigns to support Japanese forest conservation starting August 24th (Wednesday), under the title "Irodori Festival for Japan Charity Campaign." This year, focusing on "Japanese Forests," BE@RBRICK straps featuring the Japanese dormouse (Nihon Yamane) and the Japanese tree frog (Mori Ao-gaeru), both endemic species, will be introduced to convey the importance of "biodiversity" in Japanese forests.

Protecting the Diverse Life Nurtured by Our Forests

Japan, where we live, is becoming an increasingly difficult place for many species due to global warming, environmental destruction, and unprecedented natural disasters. In response, the Isetan Group is contemplating the importance of re-recognizing the "present state of Japanese forests" and walking together towards an ideal future for Japan.

While forests cover approximately 70% of Japan's landmass (about 25.12 million hectares), the income from forestry is only about ¥100,000 annually, making it an unrewarding profession. Furthermore, there are only about 50,000 people employed in forestry, with a quarter of them being over 65 years old. As a result of these various factors, many forests are left unattended. Are you aware of this harsh reality surrounding our forests?

Forests play a crucial role not only in securing water sources, preventing disasters like landslides, and mitigating global warming by absorbing CO2, but also in protecting biodiversity. They are, without a doubt, an invaluable blessing to us.

Protecting Forests Leads to Protecting Biodiversity──

Therefore, the Isetan Group is holding the "Irodori Festival for Japan Charity Campaign" starting August 24th (Wednesday). BE@RBRICK straps featuring the endemic Japanese dormouse (Nihon Yamane) and Japanese tree frog (Mori Ao-gaeru) will be sold at all Isetan Group stores nationwide.

For each of these two types of BE@RBRICK straps sold, ¥100 will be donated as a charity contribution through the Forestock Association, a general incorporated association, to support the maintenance and conservation of the forests in Shichikashuku, Katta District, Miyagi Prefecture. Incidentally, for every ¥100 (one strap purchased), it is calculated that approximately 50 square meters of forest in Shichikashuku can be protected for one year.

For the Precious Life Nurtured by Japan's Forests──Entrust your wishes to these adorable BE@RBRICK straps and gift a vibrant forest, brimming with the joy of life, to the future.
