Ayame Goriki Celebrates 60 Years Since First Everest Ascent!?
Reporting on the Commemorative Event "BALLY EVEREST 1953-2013"
Sixty years have passed since humanity first conquered Mount Everest, the world's highest peak. To commemorate this milestone, Swiss leather brand BALLY has launched a year-long celebration, beginning with an announcement in London in January 2013. In Japan, the "BALLY EVEREST 1953-2013" event was held at BALLY Ginza in October.

The "Reindeer Himalayan Boots" Reimagined for Today
On May 29, 1953, Tenzing Norgay, a Sherpa, accompanied Sir Edmund Hillary to the summit of Mount Everest, the world's highest peak. At that time, Norgay was wearing BALLY's "Reindeer Himalayan Boots." The same model of boots he wore is now carefully preserved in a shoe museum in Switzerland. At the "BALLY EVEREST 1953-2013" commemorative event held at BALLY Ginza in October, a replica of the Reindeer Himalayan Boots was exhibited.
Crafted in the same factory as the original, featuring lace-up hooks and naturally shaped reindeer fur, these boots are a masterpiece of BALLY's tradition and luxury, revived for the modern era. While adhering to the style of authentic mountaineering boots, the innovative design possesses a timeless dignity.
Jamling Tenzing Norgay, son of Tenzing Norgay, who accompanied the Everest ascent, was also in attendance. Numerous celebrities from various fields graced the event, celebrating the anniversary of BALLY and Everest.
Additionally, the new "Everest Capsule Collection" was on display. Inspired by the attire of Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary during their Everest ascent, this collection, themed "Pioneer Spirit," features items such as down coats luxuriously crafted from richly textured leather.
The boots, a standout item, feature a redesigned "Bally Grip," patented by BALLY in 1919, which boasts superior slip resistance in all directions. Based on traditional trekking and alpine styles, the lightweight, molded injection lug sole with textured patterns ensures comfort and functionality. Furthermore, the characteristic Norwegian construction with double stitching, a BALLY hallmark, provides excellent warmth and durability.
BALLY's contribution to humanity's first ascent of Everest is one of the most significant events in the brand's history. This anniversary year showcases a different facet of the brand's craftsmanship, beyond its usual luxurious image.
