Founded in 1994 by James Perse, a Los Angeles native, the brand draws on the aesthetic sensibility cultivated through his exposure to modern architecture, furniture, and design unique to California. Its high-quality casual wear quickly captivated celebrities in Hollywood and Beverly Hills, and it has since grown into a popular brand with over 20 stores across the United States.

The brand's vision is threefold: "high fashion with low maintenance," "comfort with elegance," and "sophistication with simplicity." Today, it encompasses the high-quality basic line "Standard James Perse," the real clothes line "James Perse Los Angeles," and the men's collection launched in '98.

The newly opened Jiyugaoka store is the fifth domestic shop, following those in Aoyama, Shinjuku, Futako-Tamagawa, and Isetan Shinjuku. It offers the brand's full line, including its signature cutsews, shirts, pants, and dresses. Original furniture is also displayed, creating a relaxed atmosphere that embodies the warm West Coast lifestyle.
