Donations Will Fund Cat Spay/Neuter Campaigns
Stella McCartney, a lifelong vegetarian who designs without leather or fur and champions animal rights and welfare, is raising funds through a new in-store window installation to support PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.
Reflecting the Autumn 2016 collection, the window displays playfully express cheeky cat motifs through graphic neon installations in 19 Stella McCartney boutiques across Europe, the Americas, and Asia. These Stella McCartney cat installations carry a message calling for donations to charity. They will be on display until early September, after which the collected funds will be donated to the respective organizations.

For example, donations from two Stella McCartney stores in London will benefit Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, an animal rescue center with three locations across the UK. Funds will also be collected from Stella McCartney stores worldwide for PETA, to support their cat spay/neuter campaign activities.
In addition to the neon cat window displays, a campaign has been launched on social media using the hashtag #StellaMcCatney, inspired by the cat motif, to support this initiative. This allows even those who cannot visit the stores to participate.
In Japan, while the number of euthanized dogs at animal shelters has decreased by one-third over the past decade, the number of cats remains consistently high, with nearly 100,000 euthanized each year. The rapid breeding capacity of cats is a global concern. Since 2001, PETA has been working to address overpopulation and overcrowding in shelters, including performing over 80,000 cat spay/neuter surgeries near its headquarters in Virginia. Despite these efforts, many solutions remain elusive, and the responsibility is often left to private organizations.
Instead of taking the lives of cats, whose lifespan is only about 15 years, shorter than humans, shouldn't we consider what we can do to help them live happier lives throughout their existence? Perhaps this is an opportunity to reflect.
