In July 2016, the Italian luxury brand Valentino will open its first flagship store in Tokyo at Omotesando Hills Main Building.

Spanning two floors with a total sales area of 467 square meters, this store incorporates an innovative store concept developed by British architect David Chipperfield Architects, Creative Directors MARIAGRAZIA CHIURI and PIER PAOLO PICCIOLI. To create a palazzo-like atmosphere, old and new elements are combined, eschewing the notion of a pure showroom and adopting a new architectural format in place of traditional store structures.

2F Men's Floor

The first floor displays the women's collection, with each space arranged vertically, creating distinct atmospheres through architectural elements such as color palettes, textures, and lighting. In contrast, the second floor, showcasing the men's collection, features terrazzo and palladiana flooring, creating a cohesive and unified space. This difference between the floors fosters an environment where past heritage, filled with memories beyond mere nostalgia, coexists with new ideas for the future.

A notable feature is the rounded marble pillar connecting the grand and symbolic first and second floors. The sculptural pillar, combined with a large glass facade featuring terrazzo walls, exudes a substantial presence. The luxurious yet understated materials used in the architecture—such as grey terrazzo, brass, oak, glass, and Carrara marble—complement the collection while creating a warm and relaxed atmosphere.

In addition to the store opening, a limited edition canvas tote bag will be sold at the Omotesando store to support victims of the Kumamoto earthquake, which occurred in April 2016. The bag is made from Japanese canvas and features Valentino's iconic studs. It is priced at ¥15,000 (excluding tax). All proceeds from the sale of this bag will be donated to support the victims of the Kumamoto earthquake.
