What Are Denim Pants Optimized for Today?
Introducing MIN, a New Brand Born from "Reactive Denim"
MIN, a new brand helmed by Taku Yoshida, director of "O," a select shop in Daikanyama that carries emerging domestic brands, has debuted. Eschewing a collection-based approach, the brand focuses on individual items, resulting in an unprecedented denim slacks pant.

What is One Answer to the Pants the Era Demands?
The first item from MIN is an innovative trouser, a collaboration between Taku Yoshida's direction and Asuka Hayashi, designer of the brand NEON SIGN. These slim-tapered denim slacks are crafted from 10-ounce reactive denim, hybridizing the robustness of denim, the elegance of slacks, and the ease of sweatpants.
Yoshida explains his motivation for establishing MIN: "In this era of excess, I felt a need for a brand that approaches clothing with a craftsman's focus on each individual product. This led to the creation of MIN."
Originally, denim pants began as workwear for pioneers during the Gold Rush era. They later evolved into casual wear through their adoption in cowboy and military attire, reaching their current form.
While holding deep respect for the past, including vintage clothing, I pondered what constitutes denim pants optimized for today. Consequently, instead of using natural dyes that fade, I opted for reactive denim, which offers excellent colorfastness and durability," he says.
Among all types of pants, slacks possess the most beautiful silhouette and elegant appearance. However, traditional slacks fabrics lack robustness. To address the issue of the center crease fading and the silhouette collapsing over time, the use of a center seam eliminates the need for traditional side seams.
Furthermore, by shaping the silhouette with three-dimensional cutting and incorporating features like front pockets with darts, a drawstring waist is employed to allow for the option of wearing a belt depending on the occasion. Through this iterative process of adding and subtracting elements such as materials, factors, and details, I believe I have arrived at my own answer for the design of these denim slacks.
Moving forward, I aim to go beyond just pants. With a perspective that considers history within the era, culture within history, and clothing within culture, I plan to not only materially update past clothing designs for the present but also to explore conceptual design outputs such as graphics and patterns.
MIN, which emphasizes a "one-of-a-kind" feel through the meticulous creation of materials and details, plans to introduce shirts, knits, and coats in the future.
