A Message of Support for Japan: “Beyond the Rainbow, There is Always Light”
Held from Sunday, October 16th to Saturday, October 22nd, as a kickoff show for “Mercedes-BenzFashion Week TOKYO,” Paul Smith’s 2012 Spring/Summer collection was presented. This show was planned for Japan, which had been affected by the earthquake, and featured a special, first-ever joint fashion show for the brand, combining the men's collection announced in Paris in June and the women's collection announced in London in September.
At the beginning, Paul Smith appeared on the runway holding the Japanese flag, conveying his connection to Japan and his deep affection for the country.
For the show, music exclusively by British artists such as The Rolling Stones and The Beatles was used. Approximately 700 guests were presented with the men's collection, characterized by minimalist, simple styles in sophisticated colors, and the women's collection, with its colorful accents and relaxed atmosphere, typical of Paul Smith.
At the finale, while The Beatles' "All You Need is LOVE" played, Paul Smith appeared wearing a white shirt alongside models dressed in colorful, seven-hued shirts representing a rainbow, sending a message of support to Japan, stating, “Every day is a new beginning, and beyond the rainbow, there is always light.”
Furthermore, the show was live-streamed, and public viewing parties were held at "Mercedes-Benz Connection" in Roppongi, Tokyo, as well as venues in Fukuoka and Sendai, inviting a total of 500 guests.
