Experiencing FENDI's Signature "Needle Punch"
Designer Silvia Fendi, believing that "the human need is to bravely challenge extreme conditions," presented the Autumn/Winter 2013-14 collection with "The Great Voyage" as its theme.
The "Fisherman's Coat" introduced here was inspired by the protective outerwear once worn by fishermen. To this collection-defining coat, FENDI applied its signature "needle punch" technique.
A three-layered gradation where the difference in texture is immediately apparent. This is achieved by fusing oiled leather, known for its exceptional durability in harsh conditions like mountaineering, with felt, characterized by its high insulation.
Different materials, leather and non-woven fabric, are layered, and then repeatedly struck by a unit of countless needles. The felt threads caught by the needles that penetrate the fabric are pulled to the surface, uniting the two cloths. The intermediate section, revealing a unique expression, is precisely the boundary between these disparate materials.
The Fisherman's Coat embodies toughness to confront the forces of nature, combined with a modern style. It is a masterpiece showcasing FENDI's exceptional craftsmanship.
