Timeless Elegance Expressed Through the Designer's Vision
"Massimo Alba" was founded in 2006 by designer Massimo Alba, after his tenure as Creative Director for knitwear powerhouses likeMALOand "BALLANTYNE." With a philosophy centered on "invisible luxury and comfort felt by the heart" and "unostentatious luxury," the brand focuses on meticulously crafted, Made in Italy pieces, spearheaded by its exquisite knitwear.
The exterior of the brand's first Japanese shop immediately draws the eye with text drawn from an early 19th-century architectural treatise, inscribed on the walls and windows. Massimo Alba himself was deeply involved in the store's design, cultivating a welcoming atmosphere that reflects his personal tastes.
The interior features a 1950s table and brass shelving, a 1960s yellow velvet chair, an 1800s cabinet of brass and glass, and a counter table from an old Italian textile workshop. Each element is chosen to evoke the stories and character that time imbues. All lamps are vintage, casting a warm glow throughout the space.
The collection includes the brand's signature cashmere knits, alongside coats, shirts, and accessories for both men and women. The store also offers a curated selection of items, such as bags from "ANAT GELBARD" and socks from "ALTO."
To commemorate the opening of the Japanese store, a special collaboration rock glass was created with "SORTE GLASS," a glass studio run by Ryo and Yuko Sekino in Hyogo Prefecture. Based on SORTE GLASS's signature "white and red" piece, the glasses feature dot and swirl motifs, matched with Massimo Alba's collection colors. This approach, resonating with Japanese sensibilities, is not to be missed.
