A Talk Exploring Japanese and Italian Craftsmanship

COREDO Muromachi is a commercial complex that brings together shops offering food and crafts from all over Japan, alongside long-established local businesses that embody Nihonbashi's history and culture. Its architecture blends traditional aesthetics with modern design, and COREDO Muromachi 3, in particular, proposes a high-quality lifestyle centered around "food and living."

The talk event was held at POKER FACE TOKYO TRADITION, an eyewear shop that recently opened in COREDO Muromachi 3. The store's appeal lies in its curated selection, focusing on craftsmanship from Sabae City in Fukui Prefecture, a renowned Japanese eyewear production hub.

The talk event featured fashion director Yoshimasa Hoshiba, with the theme "Japanese Craftsmanship and Italian Design." It was an engaging hour that blended discussions on the shared spirit of craftsmanship in both countries with practical styling advice.

"The newly opened COREDO Muromachi 3 and POKER FACE TOKYO TRADITION. Their concept is rooted in Japanese tradition and craftsmanship. The meticulousness of their manufacturing, stemming from this tradition, is highly regarded worldwide. My own family ran a tailor shop, and I was exposed to craftsmanship from a young age. I remember my father and grandfather working tirelessly on suits, often sacrificing sleep. That's why I associate artisans with being stubborn, delicate, and serious."

"Italy also has a tradition of craftsmanship. The eyewear I'll introduce today embodies that spirit. It balances simplicity with beauty. In particular, the creations of GIORGIO ARMANI, a representative Italian brand, are designed with uncompromising dedication. This relentless pursuit of perfection strongly resonates with the spirit of traditional Japanese craftsmanship. Furthermore, many eyewear brands are made in Italy, and like Japan, it's famous for its eyewear production."

Within the store, models recommended by Mr. Hoshiba were displayed alongside unique taglines such as "Sunglasses to Make You a Milanese Madam" and "'Two-Point' Frames for a Rich Look."

"Eyewear is a fashion item that can instantly change your impression. For example, oversized sunglasses can make your face appear smaller. Also, having a pair of brown-toned eyewear can add a touch of richness to a woman's style. Italian sunglasses, in particular, have beautiful colors. They possess a unique hue that complements the sunlight, something only those raised under such skies can achieve."

"Now, for men, I recommend 'two-point frames.' These are frames where the lenses are directly attached by drilling two holes, creating a rimless appearance, often associated with scholars or doctors. This image helps to bring out the intellectual side of the wearer."

"Then there are brown acetate frames. Brown is called 'marrone' in Italian. There's a phrase, 'azzurro e marrone,' which refers to a classic color combination for Italians: blue and brown."

"I personally favor teardrop sunglasses, as they make men look more attractive. I'd suggest enjoying them in relaxed settings, like on a date or while out on a yacht."

"Eyewear should be chosen by considering your eyebrows, the angle of your eyes, skin tone, and hair color. The saying 'glasses are part of your face' is truly accurate."

After the talk show, Mr. Hoshiba personally offered styling advice to each participant. His suggestions were practical, grounded in theory, and accompanied by detailed explanations of the craftsmanship behind the eyewear. The diverse age range of attendees underscored how eyewear is a cherished item that integrates seamlessly into daily life.
