MADE IN GM JAPAN was launched in 2008 by Hisanori Murakami, a designer with experience in apparel production and footwear factory apprenticeships, and actor Jun Murakami, who participates as a guest designer. The brand's concept is to create items with innovative designs not found in existing footwear, utilizing superior materials and manufacturing techniques based on the craftsmanship inherited from artisans.
Crafted with Horween's Long-Haired Carico Suede
The Pecos boots created for Ron Herman this time use Carico suede from Chicago's Horween, a tannery recognized for its world-class standards. This suede is characterized by its long pile, similar to velour, offering excellent durability while exuding an elegant appearance.
The "patina" that develops with age is also a key feature, with the boots taking on a vintage-like texture the more they are worn. These Pecos boots are the result of a manufacturing process that combines craftsmanship with a keen sense of style, involving numerous meticulous steps.
A Special Message from Jun Murakami Exclusively for OPENERS
"Artisans, masters of their craft. In the film industry, I work alongside such individuals, aiming for the same goal, learning, and creating. Many things cannot be completed by one person alone. Boots are the same. There are artisans who have mastered leatherwork. Artisans who operate specialized sewing machines, rare in operation today. And the shop staff, the final 'hands' that deliver the product to the customer. Furthermore, the feedback received from them. All of it is precious. Ensuring and maintaining quality. Minor changes. Improvements. The consciousness that arises from confronting the daily process of creation. In this world today, is it not true that only the genuine can succeed? Put another way, can one even survive without a sincere approach to creation? Discernment. Intuition. Customers with high standards are present. I participate in the creation process with enjoyment. Enjoyment. I want to remain sensitive to that." Jun Murakami, who designs for the boot brand "GM," shared these thoughts.
Focus on the Toe Design, Which Defines the Boot's Impression
The most distinctive feature, clearly visible in the toe area, is its unique roundness, reminiscent of a "koppe-pan" (a type of Japanese bread roll), stemming from the original last meticulously crafted from scratch. The shaft has a slightly relaxed, cylindrical shape, allowing for easy slip-on wear. Steel reinforcement in the toe adds a masculine, rugged touch while maintaining a sophisticated aesthetic. This balance was achieved through extensive trial and error in developing the last.
The sole is made of Vibram's #2021 beige material, which is softer and offers superior cushioning compared to typical sneaker rubber soles. The welt features double stitching, and the midsole is single-stitched. Naturally, the boots are constructed using the Goodyear welted method.
