First Event Ever Held at Aman Tokyo

"Ermenegildo Zegna" chose the "Aman Tokyo," one of the finest luxury hotels in the city, as the venue. Since its opening last December, this marks the first time the hotel has hosted a party. Mr. Stefano Pilati also attended the event, which featured a dinner and cocktail party.

The MADE IN JAPAN capsule collection, the star of this event, was displayed along the windows. Also unveiled was a "Made in Japan" photo exhibition by photographer Takashi Homma, featuring five key opinion leaders (KOLs) who represent the next generation, photographed against the backdrop of Tokyo's urban landscape.

Digital signage showcased portraits and movies by Mr. Homma, capturing the KOLs in the capsule collection at iconic Tokyo locations. The visual concept was inspired by Ermenegildo Zegna's proposed borderless style, interpreted through Mr. Homma's unique lens.

Stefano Pilati Discusses the Project's Core

Why did you choose Japan as a partner for the capsule collection?

We wanted to announce the capsule collection to celebrate the opening of our Ginza Global Store, one of the largest in the world. This project celebrates the values Ermenegildo Zegna prides itself on: a high fashion sensibility, the finest quality, and superior craftsmanship that underpins refined, masculine elegance.

What are the commonalities between Italian and Japanese craftsmanship?

I believe Italy and Japan are countries that can share values such as craftsmanship and excellence in sartorial style. In particular, when selecting partners, Ermenegildo Zegna, with its origins in textile manufacturing, focused on creating timeless works of art by researching Japanese fabric manufacturers whose quality it respects, and top-tier artisans with experience in Italian tailoring and elegance.

What was your primary focus in designing the capsule collection?

We took care to ensure it retained the essence of Ermenegildo Zegna while also reflecting Japanese craftsmanship. We balanced the elements to create a piece that leverages the strengths of both, without leaning too heavily on one side.

What are your thoughts on the collection's launch and the reactions you've received?

I was surprised by the high level of interest, exceeding our expectations, and the desire to know more about the details. But this enthusiasm likely stems from the shared passion for quality, taste, and craftsmanship that unites Italy and Japan.

What did you feel through this event?

It was a truly wonderful time, and it elevated the concept of the MADE IN JAPAN capsule collection. The presentation venue and the party itself were exciting and deeply moving. I also enjoyed conversing with the KOLs and hope to build upon these collaborations in future projects.

Five Key Opinion Leaders Representing the Next Generation

The "Made in Japan" photo exhibition by Takashi Homma visually represents Ermenegildo Zegna's concept of borderlessness. Mr. Homma, along with the five key opinion leaders (KOLs) selected for this project—Ryo Kase (actor), Kaie Murakami (creative director), Keiichiro Shibuya (musician), Shohei Shigematsu (architect), and Zaiyu Hasegawa (Michelin-starred chef)—attended the party.

Each work is a vibrant photo-documentary, visually expressing the philosophy of Ermenegildo Zegna's MADE IN JAPAN project from multiple perspectives. The fusion of Mr. Homma's photographs and the unique worlds of the five KOLs presents a facet of the ideal modern man: one who is both local and exceptionally global.

Takashi Homma on the Appeal of the "Made in Japan" Photo Exhibition

What was the keyword when selecting the models for this project?

People who are successful internationally despite being Japanese. I approached the shoot with the aim of capturing their power. I didn't try to artificially create anything; I focused on capturing their reality, both for myself and for them.

Regarding the locations and themes chosen for the shoot?

Since this was a Japan-exclusive collection, I aimed to combine locations and individuals that evoke a sense of Japan. However, I approached it as a portrait session, not a fashion shoot.

For Ryo Kase, I chose a rooftop with an industrial view against the Tokyo Bay. For Kaie Murakami, the setting was the Moriyama House, focusing on a single presence amidst a cluster of buildings. Keiichiro Shibuya's shoot took place in his studio and office. For Zaiyu Hasegawa and Shohei Shigematsu, I utilized the gardens and interiors of the International House of Japan, incorporating elements of Japanese nuance and modernism.

What was the atmosphere like on the set?

Staff from Italy also came, and they were very positive about the shoot. By incorporating not just overt Japanese elements but also the landscape of contemporary Tokyo, we were able to broaden the scope of expression. We used the same cameras for stills and motion, and the blend of experimental shooting with the tension of a real production was quite enjoyable.

The items worn by the KOLs in Mr. Homma's photos were released at the Ginza store on September 5th (Saturday) and at the Osaka store on October 1st (Thursday). We encourage you to visit the shops and experience the new values brought forth by the MADE IN JAPAN project, alongside the vibrant portraits and movies.
