Toshiyuki Kurosawa Talk Event Held
Toshiyuki Kurosawa, an indispensable figure in discussing "Ivy" and "Trad" in Japanese men's fashion history, will be the subject of a talk event. On Saturday, August 29th, the "Toshiyuki Kurosawa Talk Event – IVY and TRAD Revived Today" will take place at the Kobe Fashion Museum in Hyogo Prefecture. This event offers an opportunity to hear from a key figure in 1960s youth culture about the fashion and societal atmosphere of that era.

Meet Toshiyuki Kurosawa, the Embodiment of Ivy Style, in a Special Meet-and-Greet
VAN Jacket inc., an apparel manufacturer, was founded in Osaka in 1947. The brand it created, "VAN," championed "Ivy" fashion, inspired by the prestigious universities of America's East Coast, the "Ivy League."
In the 1960s, Ivy style swept through Japan's fashion scene, with VAN becoming its emblematic brand. Alongside founder Mr. Kensuke Ishizu, Mr. Toshiyuki Kurosawa, who joined the company in 1961, rose to prominence. As head of planning, he was instrumental in shaping the Ivy and Trad styles for VAN, cementing his place as a pivotal figure in the history of Japanese menswear.
As a writer, he has continued to convey the allure of men's fashion through works such as "The Age of Ivy." His contributions are numerous, including his supervision of "TAKE IVY," the bible of Ivy style published in 1965. The upcoming talk event will feature a curated selection of items from the collection Mr. Kurosawa donated to the Kobe Fashion Museum, with anecdotes about the era and the stories behind their creation. The gallery will also offer a close-up view of the collection.
As the subtitle "IVY and TRAD Revived Today" suggests, Ivy and Trad styles have remained a cornerstone of Japanese fashion since the 1960s. They continue to be significant keywords even in the 2010s, with revivals seen in contemporary street fashion. A meet-and-greet session will also be held, offering a unique opportunity to converse directly with Mr. Toshiyuki Kurosawa. This promises to be an unparalleled chance to experience the very essence of the Ivy spirit.
