WRAPINKNOT

Diverse knitting machines and artisans collaborate to create high-quality items.

Exploring the potential of knitwear through advanced sewing techniques.

"We interpret Japanese knitwear in a contemporary way, crafting seasonal knit materials and combinations with other fabrics through experience-backed techniques," says Daiki Umeda, Director of WRAPINKNOT. Since its debut in Spring/Summer 2012 from UMEDA KNIT, one of Japan's leading knit factories with over 50 years of history in Gosen City, Niigata Prefecture, the brand has been delivering luxurious, made-in-Japan knit collections.

The theme: "PATTERN & CODE"

──What is the theme/concept for the 2014-15 Autumn/Winter collection?

This season's theme is "PATTERN & CODE." In the 1960s, San Francisco was alive with the hippie movement.──The fog over the Golden Gate Bridge is expressed through special jacquard, and the city's grid-like structure, with its many slopes, is represented by knitting patterns.
Additionally, we've modernized elements inspired by the fringe popular at the time, using cords extensively.

──What were your priorities and what should people look out for in this season's lookbook shoot?

Against a backdrop of warm colors, we aimed to convey the excellence of our signature knitwear. Please pay attention to the luxurious use of knit yarns.

──What are the differences from last year's Autumn/Winter collection in terms of styling, silhouette, and color?

While there are no major changes in silhouette, the variety of knits has increased, with the addition of items like a rider's jacket in compressed knit and an off-the-shoulder turtleneck made with special yarn. In terms of color, we've used yellow, winter white, and purple as accent colors.

──What is the key look (coordination) for this season?

We've chosen slim tapered pants with a switching detail between stretch cord and knit, paired with a low-gauge off-the-shoulder turtleneck knitted from special yarn, and a fingerless cardigan in cashmere sable, a luxurious material, knitted on top of knit.
This look (bottom center) truly showcases WRAPINKNOT's signature style.

──What are the key items and key colors?

The key items are a reversible knit (front and back) and a herringbone reversible coat. The key colors are winter white and yellow.

──What "materials" did you focus on this season?

These include specially ordered shrink-resistant 6-ply wool, cashmere sable (over 100% cashmere), and fancy yarns that resemble snowballs.

──What "things, people, or phenomena" are you currently paying attention to in the fashion scene?

Regarding "things," the role and trends of select shops. For "people," Dries Van Noten. For "objects," hum jewelry.──For some reason, I like women's accessories.

──What do you expect from the web magazine OPENERS (http://openers.jp/)?

I expect OPENERS to introduce cultures beyond fashion with a sophisticated image.
