Silver Accessories from the Desert People: Each One Uniquely Crafted
Each One Unique
Silver Jewelry of the Desert People
The Tuareg people roam the Sahara. Proud nomads who once played a central role in Saharan trade and fiercely resisted the colonial policies of great powers. Their aesthetic sensibility, cultivated in a harsh environment, breathes life into each of these accessories.
Warmth and Gratitude
"If you drink the water of Africa, you will return to Africa."
This phrase captures the allure of Africa, a continent that seizes the heart of those who visit and never lets go.
Noriko Asano, who contributes the series "Winds of Africa" to OPENERS, is one such person captivated by Africa. This time, we introduce handmade accessories she sourced directly from the local Tuareg people.
The Tuareg, a nomadic people who journeyed across the Sahara on camels, clad in indigo robes. Known as the "Blue Warriors" and "Masters of the Sahara" for their resilience and struggle for survival, their pride and indomitable spirit are said to be passed down to this day.

While African ethnic attire and accessories vary greatly by tribe in form, color, and material, Tuareg silver jewelry is distinguished by its mystical designs and intricate craftsmanship.
Yet, despite their intricacy, they don't feel cold or inorganic, likely because each piece is handcrafted by the Tuareg people.
Take, for example, the necklace pendant in the photo on the left. Agate is combined with delicate silverwork, meticulously carved one stroke at a time. The organic flow of the lines and surfaces that form the pattern conveys a warmth and gratitude that only human hands can impart. Even minor scratches and imperfections serve to enhance the piece's character.
And the fact that each piece is unique only enhances the joy of wearing something that cannot be found in mass-produced items.
Supporting African Children
A shop featuring these silver accessories is participating in the web shopping platform "rumors" as "African Market Café by AFRICAN JAG PROJECT."
Tuareg accessories have captivated not only Miles Davis, the legendary jazz trumpeter, but also top creators and celebrities. African Market Café offers a curated selection of exquisite pieces that have caught Asano's discerning eye.
Furthermore, a portion of the proceeds from this venture will be donated as support for "AFRICAN JAG PROJECT," which aims to aid African children, including those affected by AIDS.
Once you discover the allure of Africa, it's hard to let go.
We invite you to prove this for yourself.
