ACRONYM: Clothing Where Design Meets Function
ACRONYM: Clothing of Design and Function
There's a brand that was once only available on its original website, but its popularity spread after a few trendsetting international top artists, who were captivated by its materials and craftsmanship, were seen wearing it.
That brand is ACRONYM, which primarily develops items using GORE-TEX material.

ACRONYM was founded in 1995 in Germany by designer Errolson and his partner Michaela. They are a creative team that has handled planning for technical sports brands, including the top snowboard brand Burton and a special line for Stone Island.
Through this accumulated experience, they have created a unique functional design that combines various functionalities fed back from elements of sports and military wear with nuances of both street and mode aesthetics. This has led to them gaining attention from fashion-forward international artists in recent years.

They actively engage in research and development of materials and components, and their apparel, which masterfully embodies functionality, extensively uses GORE-TEX 3-Layer Pro Shell and waterproof zippers. To ensure these don't affect the fit or silhouette, they employ unique, proprietary thin seam tapes. Their originality is boundless, and their garments are truly evolving, all-around pieces that surprise with their multiple functions.

While the essence of this brand may still be not fully understood in Japan, with its introduction into major select shops last season, it's likely to start gaining attention soon.
They have also released intriguing items, such as bags developed with the messenger bag specialist Bagjack using German military components, and bags capable of integrating compact solar panels (sold separately) for devices like the iPod. ACRONYM is a brand worth watching for its future developments.
