Rediscovering the Pure Joy of Creation

SPUTNIK AUCTION: Purchase Art Through an Auction Format

Kuroaki Teruo Office and Mirai Institute K.K. have announced the "SPUTNIK AUCTION 2014," an event designed to connect creators directly with those who wish to purchase their work. The auction will be held on Monday, November 3rd (public holiday) at "COMMUNE 246" in Omotesando.

Evaluate Works with Clarity and Acquire Them at a Price You're Comfortable With

SPUTNIK AUCTION is an auction that simplifies the relationship between "artworks," "those who wish to own them," and "money," curated from a perspective close to artists, designers, and craftspeople.

Inspired by the first artificial satellite, Sputnik, which viewed Earth from space as a single, beautiful entity without borders or divisions, this event was conceived to create a space for the pure appreciation of an object's beauty. It is also an endeavor to deliver the value of creative work as directly as possible to the creators.

This auction is held in collaboration with "TABROOM," an information site specializing in furniture. It will feature approximately 40 items, primarily works by artists, designers, and craftspeople from Sweden, Portland (Oregon), and Japan. The lineup ranges from creative furniture to unique eyewear.

The auction begins with a minimum reserve price set by the creator. The highest bidder wins the right to purchase the artwork, and this price is returned to the creator as the "price of the work." However, the final sale price will be the highest bid plus a 20% commission covering curation, shipping, and other costs.

The event takes place on November 3rd (Monday, holiday), during Design Week, at the newly opened "COMMUNE 246" in Omotesando. Anyone can participate.

This promises to be an excellent opportunity to rediscover the fundamental value, fascination, and beauty of objects and craftsmanship with a fresh perspective.
