A Gallery to Experience the Warmth of Solid Wood Slab Tables


"Atelier MOKUBA Aoyama" Opens


Solid wood slabs, each with a unique shape and grain, are natural creations unlike any other. "Atelier MOKUBA Aoyama," a specialized gallery showcasing tables made from these solid wood slabs, opened in Tokyo's Aoyama district on October 5th.

Over 100 Solid Wood Slabs Always on Display

Ōkawa City in Fukuoka Prefecture is known as Japan's largest furniture production hub. "Atelier MOKUBA Aoyama" is a specialized gallery for solid wood slab tables, operated by "Sekikagu Kobo MOKUBA" (Sekikagu Woodcraft Studio MOKUBA), part of the Sekikagu furniture group. The gallery features natural solid wood slabs, crafted from carefully selected logs sourced from around the world, using state-of-the-art machinery and the skilled techniques of expert artisans. It's a space where visitors can truly appreciate their beauty by seeing and touching them.



Solid wood, once primarily domestic timber, was confined to traditional Japanese homes, inns, and restaurants. Sekikagu has expanded its offerings to include a diverse range of overseas wood species and established methods that maximize the inherent value of the wood. They have broadened its application to furniture that enriches contemporary living spaces, such as apartments with modern flooring.




These slab tables, now more beautiful and varied in their expression, are said to be gaining strong support from those seeking the warmth and tranquility of wood in their daily lives.

Sekikagu established its specialized slab studio, "MOKUBA," in 2010. Buyers directly procure premium logs from North America, South America, Africa, and other regions worldwide, establishing an integrated system from procurement to processing and quality control. In Tokyo, they also operate the Shinjuku Gallery within the Living Design Center OZONE in Nishi-Shinjuku, showcasing products ranging from approximately 200,000 to 5 million yen.

Store manager Shotaro Hayashi, who has successively opened galleries in Tenjin (Fukuoka), Shinjuku (Tokyo), and now "Atelier MOKUBA Aoyama," shares his aspirations: "MOKUBA's solid wood slabs, infused with the pinnacle of woodworking technology cultivated in Okawa from procurement to manufacturing, possess the highest quality. "Atelier MOKUBA Aoyama" offers premium products under the MOKUBA brand, priced from approximately 500,000 to 10 million yen. Over 100 pieces (approximately 30 types of wood) are always on display, ranging from 1.8 to 5 meters in length, with custom orders possible for sizes up to 12 meters long and 1.35 meters wide.




It is also noteworthy that three multi-talented creators—stylist Masato Okamura, photographer Akio Tomi, and designer Kosuke Shimuta—are comprehensively involved and collaborating on the "Atelier MOKUBA Aoyama" project.
