Curator of the small gallery "Preview" is Mr. Akio Aoki
The curation for "Preview," a small gallery space introducing promising new creators, is handled byCreative Director Akio Aoki.
Regarding the selection of "2TONE" for this inaugural exhibition, he recommends, "They are creators who have their own workshop and are engaged daily in woodworking for furniture and small items, as well as silk-screen printing for fabrics, valuing a tangible feel alongside their designs. We encourage you to pay close attention to 2TONE, whose meticulous craftsmanship delights users while their challenging designs strip away non-essentials."
This gallery space, "Preview," is scheduled to change its featured artists approximately every three months. The first exhibition, featuring "2TONE," will be on display for a limited time until early September.
A nascent unit, yet a noteworthy design studio with a wealth of experience
The design studio 2TONE states, "In our daily lives, where experiences of directly feeling something with a tangible connection seem to be diminishing, we want to create things whose 'tangible feel' endures for as long as possible, right up to the moment someone holds them."—With this philosophy, they handle everything from design to production, valuing the act of making with their own hands in their dedicated workshop.
Their oil-finished furniture is meticulously designed and produced. The "HYAKUSHIKI (100 Styles)" series of wooden boxes offers a unique proposal with 100 different designs. A core characteristic of their approach to creation is the interplay of two materials: wood and fabric. In addition to wooden products such as furniture, store fixtures, and displays, they also design and produce original fabrics for their furniture. These fabrics extend beyond interiors to apparel, accessories, and miscellaneous goods, demonstrating how the combination of wood and fabric expands the world and possibilities of 2TONE's creations.
