A Lineup of Card Cases and Wallets
What is "Koshu Inden"? It is a traditional craft from Yamanashi Prefecture, dating back to the Edo period, that involves applying lacquer to deerskin to create patterns. In Yamanashi, a project is underway to utilize deerskin produced in the prefecture.
This series marks the debut of Japan's first pure white Inden card cases and wallets, adding a modern touch to tradition. Most leather circulating in the market is tanned using chrome agents suitable for mass production. "URUSHINASHIKA" uses environmentally friendly tanning technology without chrome agents, achieving the deerskin's original soft and smooth texture.
The planning and design were handled by "CEMENT PRODUCE DESIGN," centered around "Inden no Yamamoto," a carrier of Koshu Inden. Sewing was undertaken by Kobe-based leather brand "Studio Kiichi."
The patterns range from the traditional "Kanoko" (fawn spots) to modern camouflage, all rendered with delicate detail by the high skills of traditional artisans. The result is a look that appeals to the sophisticated adult.
The deerskin used is from Japanese deer that were managed and captured as pests in Fujikawaguchiko Town, Yamanashi Prefecture. This initiative addresses the increasing damage to forests and agriculture caused by the growing population of Japanese deer in recent years, linking the resolution of social issues with the promotion of traditional crafts.
We invite you to experience the unique texture and feel of Inden, a masterful fusion of deerskin and lacquer.
