Updating and Reissuing Masterpieces from the 1970s
Cassina's new furniture, designed to enhance diverse living spaces, has arrived in Japan.
The I Maestri Collection, which revives and produces furniture masterpieces created by the titans of modern architecture, now features the "CORNARO" sofa, originally designed by Carlo Scarpa in 1973, reissued from the archives.
While retaining its unique material and structural contrast, with a geometric base embracing a soft seat, the sofa has been redeveloped in collaboration with Tobia Scarpa, Carlo Scarpa's son, to increase its height and depth, offering a more relaxed seating experience.
Environmental considerations are also paramount, with the sofa's padding utilizing recycled PET fibers, and the cushions incorporating polyurethane made with a certain percentage of bio-based or recycled polyols.
Furthermore, to facilitate component recycling and collection at the end of its lifecycle, the sofa features a structure with no joints, allowing for complete disassembly.
Additionally, the "ORDINAL" table collection, designed by Michael Anastassiades, now includes a marble low table to add luxury to living and lounge areas.
Available in rectangular and square types, with five marble options, its sculptural and elegant design beautifully enhances any space.
The "TAMBUROUND" lounge chair, designed by Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby, also makes its debut. Both the seat and backrest rotate 360 degrees, resembling a satellite orbiting a planet. The two parts are designed to trace an elegant trajectory and were developed with sustainability in mind.
Other highlights include new additions to the "TOREI" low table collection, which can be stacked and combined according to use and space, and the "BROLIC" vase from the Cassina Details collection, offering a range of interior accessories.
The "BROLIC" vase, in particular, marks the first collaboration between Cassina and Bradley L. Bowers, a young designer based in New Orleans. Its smooth, sculptural form, inspired by his diverse influences, promises to bring a striking presence to any space.
The new collection will be showcased starting July 24 at the Aoyama flagship store and Fukuoka store, with exhibitions and presentations following from July 31 at the Nagoya and Osaka stores.
