Exploring Materials That Honor the Eames Philosophy

The Eames Shell Chair first emerged in 1950 as the world's first mass-producible plastic chair. Initially, its shell was made of fiberglass. However, due to issues with the manufacturing process at the time and concerns about its recyclability, production was discontinued in 1989 (and in Japan in 1997).

It was then relaunched in 2000 as the Eames Shell Chair, made from 100% recyclable polypropylene.

This time, the chair is made using eco-conscious fiberglass and manufactured through the dry-binder process, originally developed for the automotive industry. This process avoids the release of harmful substances like volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and enables the creation of a recyclable product.

Faithfully Recreating the Original Color Palette

The Eames Fiberglass Shell Chair is available in eight colors, faithfully reproducing the original palette: Parchment, Ultramarine Blue, Red Orange, Lemon Yellow, Green, Navy Blue, Black, and Seal Brown.

The shell is available in both side chair and armchair versions. The side chair can be selected with a wire base, stacking base, four-leg base, or dowel base, while the armchair can be chosen with a wire base, four-leg base, dowel base, or rocker base.

A Poster Gift to Commemorate the Launch

The first 200 customers who purchase two or more Eames Fiberglass Shell Chairs simultaneously will receive a "BEWARE OF IMITATIONS" poster (poster size W687×H838mm, unframed), designed by the Eames Office in 1963.
