The "Standard Chair" Evolves for Contemporary Living
Rational, minimalist, and beautiful. When thinking of products designed by Jean Prouvé, one of the 20th century's foremost designers, the "Standard Chair" likely comes to mind first. Vitra is now releasing the "Standard SP," which retains the original form of the Standard Chair but has been adapted for contemporary lifestyles.

Now Available with a Reinforced Plastic Seat
Prouvé's masterpiece, the "Standard Chair," was designed in the 1930s for a competition at the Cité Universitaire in Nancy. Its innovative combination of materials, plywood and steel, perfectly expressed the mechanical requirements of a chair without excess. It is said to encapsulate Prouvé's philosophy. The original product continues to command increasingly high prices, with no ceiling in sight.
The "SP" in the newly released "Standard SP" is an abbreviation of the French word for "plastic seat." As the name suggests, the seat and backrest are made of reinforced plastic. The steel base has been finished with a matte powder coating to complement the plastic. Furthermore, an attractive and extensive range of color variations is available, totaling 49 patterns. It has truly been reborn as the latest chair, adapted for contemporary lifestyles.
While retaining Jean Prouvé's structural philosophy, this iconic chair has evolved from "plywood and steel" to "plastic and steel." Combined with its colorful finishes, it is sure to bring vibrancy to any dining space.
