NEW DOMAIN

The Meticulous Design Behind the "Ordinary"

Established in 2019, NEW DOMAIN is a design firm comprising eight members. It's a collective of new-generation creators, most of whom are in their early twenties. They conduct research, prototyping, and production entirely in-house, delivering diverse outputs across various genres.

Based in Kyoto, the design firm NEW DOMAIN engages in cross-disciplinary activities, leveraging each member's expertise. Their work spans spatial design, furniture production, exhibition curation, development and proposal of educational programs, and prototyping of medical devices.
This autumn, they are releasing their own product line.
"Mk3" is a table made from building materials. It's designed for a wide range of uses, from dining to workspaces. The tabletop specifications can be changed to suit the application (shown here with a melamine finish).
Next is "John Doe," a storage unit that excels in its refined fit. Contrary to its simple appearance, it features meticulous design down to the smallest details, intended to highlight the items stored within.
Made with structural plywood (larch plywood), it has a substantial and weighty construction. This unit can be produced in various sizes to match the user's living space.
An exhibition of their self-produced items is also scheduled to be held at the space "blank" within Umekoji Potel Kyoto, starting December 23 (Thursday).
