A New Story from Arne Jacobsen
Modern Design Born from Collaboration with an Old Friend
Arne Jacobsen, one of the 20th century's most influential architects, is renowned for his extensive work in architecture, furniture, and lighting, all designed to complement spaces. Now, the "Mayor Sofa," a sofa jointly created by Jacobsen and his childhood friend, the Danish functionalist architect Flemming Lassen, has been released.

Note the linear structure reflecting Lassen's functionalism
Arne Jacobsen left behind many outstanding designs in collaboration with his old friend Flemming Lassen. Among them, the Søllerød Town Hall, built in 1942, stands as a building emblematic of that era. For this town hall, from the exterior to the furniture and doorknobs, Jacobsen served as the principal architect, with Flemming Lassen collaborating on every part. The Mayor Sofa was created during this period. Its linear frame and flat seat might strike those familiar with Jacobsen's furniture as slightly different.
While Arne Jacobsen's name is well-known in the history of modern design, the collaborative relationship that led to designs with Flemming Lassen is less recognized. However, the Mayor Sofa, reflecting Flemming Lassen's functionalist design philosophy, can be seen as a form that sublimates the contributions of both.
The Mayor Sofa, now appearing as a mass-produced product, promises to be a piece that unfolds a new, less-told story of Jacobsen.
