Moroccan Rugs: Oriental Charm Captivating Both Domestic and International Audiences

Moroccan rugs vary in style depending on the region where they are woven. This pop-up store features one-of-a-kind rugs from the "Beni Ouarain" and "Boucherouite" styles.

"Beni Ouarain" rugs are woven in the village of Beni Ouarain, located in the northeastern Middle Atlas mountains.
They are made using the natural colors of wool, such as beige and brown, without any dyeing. Their appeal lies in their plush feel due to the rich pile length.

Many of these rugs were made in the 1960s and 70s, making those in good condition and of historical significance very rare.
This time, the store offers living room-sized rare rugs as well as newly made small-sized rugs suitable for kitchens and entryways, adapted for Japanese lifestyles.

"Boucherouite," which means "worn-out cloth" in a Moroccan dialect, are recycled rugs that began to be made throughout Morocco about 50 years ago.
These were household rugs woven from scraps of worn-out clothes and old fabrics by families who could not afford to buy wool. Similar techniques are used to create them across Morocco.
Characterized by their imaginative use of limited materials to create colorful patterns, each is a unique hand-woven rug reflecting the history, life, and even preferences of the Moroccan people.

In addition, the pop-up store will also feature Moroccan雑貨 (zakka) specially selected by Ms. Ohara, director of Fatima Morocco. The lineup includes casual interior items like metal lanterns that create beautiful light and shadow, tray and table sets, as well as small items such as tassels and antique bowls.
