Focus on Robin Day's Reclining Chair!
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Robin Day, a leading designer of the British mid-century era, Margaret Howell has produced a commemorative reclining chair. This reclining chair was originally designed in 1952 and is considered by Robin Day himself to be one of his most accomplished and iconic designs.
Margaret Howell comments, "I felt it was fitting to use fabric woven by Mourne Textiles for Robin Day's reclining chair. Although it is a woven fabric, the colours and design are understated. I recognise this as an early collaboration between Robin Day and the woman who created these beautiful fabrics, Gerd Hay-Edie, and I am delighted that both considered it appropriate."
The fabric chosen by Margaret Howell is Blazer, designed by Gerd Hay-Edie in the 1950s following meetings with Robin Day and Leslie Julius. This design is currently produced by Mourne Textiles, using traditional looms and techniques in a family-run studio overlooking the Mourne Mountains in Ireland.
