BoConcept's Spring 2012 New Collection: A Collaboration with Karim Rashid!
The "Ottawa" Dining Collection
Karim Rashid is one of the world's most renowned product designers. He moved to Canada at the age of seven, and his experience at the 1967 World's Fair in Montreal profoundly influenced him later in life. The "Ottawa" dining collection, launched by BoConcept, is inspired by Ottawa, the capital of Canada, where he spent his formative years at the beginning of his design career.

Karim, who has worked on design projects in 42 countries to date,
and BoConcept, with its 250 stores worldwide, find a natural connection.
Experiencing the 1967 Montreal World's Fair, Karim says, "I learned that I could translate drawings into three dimensions." "From then on, I became interested in invention and technology. And in shaping the material world."
"Whenever I visit Denmark, BoConcept's home, I feel the beautiful climate and landscape of the Nordic cities," he explains passionately. "That beauty is very similar to Ottawa, Canada, where I studied design 30 years ago. So, when I encountered the Danish brand BoConcept this time, I felt that a collaboration would be the best way to pay homage to my 30-year career."
The "Ottawa" dining collection is a comprehensive range that includes dining tables, chairs, and sideboards, as well as accessories like rugs, lamps, and collector's cups. For Karim, designing the entire dining room as a cohesive whole was a new experience.
"Since BoConcept is a brand that offers complete interiors, it was very natural to consider the dining room from various angles and sketch it out. I was able to create a total environment, from macro elements like the dining table and rug to micro elements like lamps and cups."
Creating something impractical and uncomfortable is meaningless.
Furniture should simplify life and enhance its quality.—The "Ottawa" dining collection embodies this shared vision between Karim Rashid and BoConcept, offering interiors that are both functional and possess a valuable individuality.
The most iconic design in this collection is the dining chair, inspired by the nature of Canada and Denmark. The seat is shaped like a leaf, and the legs evoke trees in a forest, offering both high design and exceptional seating comfort. Karim states, "When doing something new, the challenge is to seek comfort. In this era, creating something impractical and uncomfortable is meaningless."
The dining table is a functional extension piece, inheriting the tradition of Danish furniture from the 1950s and 60s. Karim's primary focus was on creating a comfortable, soft, and human-centric shape that remains pleasant even after long periods of use, characterized by smooth, feminine, and sensual curves. It can seat up to 14 people, with the extension mechanism seamlessly integrated and invisible from the outside. Additionally, the collection features a distinctive soft, flowing curved handle on the front, and a sideboard with customizable side panels is also available.
This new collection from a product designer and a brand that consistently create high-quality, innovative designs possesses the power to inspire a new lifestyle.
