CONDE HOUSE
The Appeal of "Familiarity" That Was Nowhere to Be Found
Naoto Fukasawa Designs the "KAMUY" Collection
CONDE HOUSE, a leading manufacturer from Asahikawa, Hokkaido—renowned as one of Japan's foremost woodworking furniture production areas—has unveiled the new LUX collection of chairs and tables, "KAMUY," in collaboration with product designer Naoto Fukasawa. The collection will be available from Saturday, October 10, 2015.

A Collection Named "Kamuy" Derived from the Ainu Language
The new "Kamuy" collection is a fusion of Naoto Fukasawa's sculptural aesthetics and Asahikawa's craftsmanship, resulting in simple, high-quality pieces. It blends seamlessly into any space, exuding a quiet charm of "familiarity" that feels both novel and comforting.
The "240/210" dining table allows for adjustable leg placement. When paired with four dining chairs, placing the legs outward ensures they fit comfortably within the table's frame. For six chairs, inward placement prevents the table legs from obstructing those seated at the short ends. The dining armchair is available in two types: a plain wooden seat, celebrated for its simplicity, and an upholstered version offering a wider range of expression.

At the press preview held at "CONDE HOUSE Tokyo" in Nishi-Shinjuku, Tokyo, five dining armchairs and two dining tables were on display. Addressing the new collection, Naoto Fukasawa remarked, "The design of Kamuy is difficult to explain, but I feel I've created a 'beautiful chair.' For a chair to be used for a long time, comfort is paramount. I believe Kamuy benefits from my accumulated experience, making it one of the most comfortable pieces I've designed."
He continued, "While we used high-quality walnut, we also incorporated Hokkaido-sourced oak this time, and it looks wonderful in this setting. The table was designed with the chairs in mind, but both the chairs and table were created with a sense of unpretentiousness. I heard the CONDE HOUSE technicians faced considerable challenges," he added with a smile. "I believe the design is universal, suitable not only for homes but also for shops and restaurants, so I hope many people will experience it."
An "easy living" version of the "Kamuy" collection, featuring an easy chair, stool, and side table, will be additionally announced on Friday, October 30, during TOKYO DESIGN WEEK at CONDE HOUSE Tokyo.
