Exceptional Modern Design Arrives in Ginza
In an era overflowing with goods, thanks in part to the spread of the internet, this is an opportunity to reconnect with outstanding design items.—The "MODERNISM SHOW" at Matsuya Ginza is inspired by the "Modernism Show" rooted in the American West Coast, which exhibits and sells various design items centered on vintage furniture. This event brings together leading shops and dealers representing "today."
Exhibitors include, in addition to "BUILDING" featured here, the vintage shop "ELEPHANT" located on a backstreet in Omotesando; "STOOL INC.," curated by one of Japan's foremost dealers who spearheaded the Nordic boom; the appointment-only shop "Swimsuit Department," which handles a variety of vintage items; "Gallery Hokkki," specializing in works by Nordic masters from the mid-century period, primarily the 1950s; and "VEVET THE SHOWROOM," based in Fukuoka.
Each of these shops has a large following and will be selling a range of modernist designs born in various countries after the war.
Featuring Charles & Ray Eames Works
BUILDING will be exhibiting rare pieces such as the "RAR" 1st model by Charles & Ray Eames, featuring a rope edge and large mount shell; the "Eames Lounge Chair & Ottoman" made from Brazilian rosewood, discontinued in 1990 due to logging restrictions; the "CANDELABRA" candle stand designed by Erik Höglund, which exudes a stoic and unique presence through its expressive black iron and clear glass; and the "PUNGO" flower vase designed by Stig Lindberg.
Additionally, jewelry by Monica Castiglioni, daughter of Italian design master Achille Castiglioni, will also be available at the venue.
