It has been 75 years since the "Pelican Chair," an armchair by furniture design master Finn Juhl, was introduced. Finn Juhl, Known as the "Sculptor of Furniture"

With his unique ideas and exceptional sense of form, Finn Juhl created his own distinct world, bringing Danish furniture to global recognition. His exquisite forms and details earned him the title "Sculptor of Furniture."

He favored teak, a material considered extremely difficult to work with at the time, and improved processing methods. His efforts to establish teak as a primary material for Danish furniture were a significant achievement. His works are now part of collections in Danish embassies and museums worldwide.

Resembling a Pelican Spreading Its Wings

The "Pelican Chair" was designed in 1940, a period when Finn Juhl was focusing on upholstered chairs and sofas. Its distinctive form is said to have been designed in harmony with the reliefs of sculptor Erik Thommesen and Hans Arp. The chair derives its name from its resemblance to a pelican spreading its wings.

The 75th anniversary model, "PELICAN MEETS MACBETH (Armchair Pelican 75TH #056-132)," available exclusively at IDC Otsuka Furniture, features upholstery designed by Asger Jorn, an artist with whom Finn Juhl had a close relationship during his lifetime.

This artwork edition was born from a collaboration between Onecollection, a manufacturer of designer furniture that understands and continues to reproduce Finn Juhl's masterpieces, and DOMICILECULTURE, a fabric manufacturer captivated by Asger Jorn's art.
