Themes Define Each Store's Selection
ACME Furniture specializes in American vintage furniture from the 1960s and 70s, selected according to their unique aesthetic and restored in their in-house workshop. While they typically establish a theme for each buying trip, this time, each store has been assigned its own theme to ensure a distinct character for every location.
For this arrival, the buyers have meticulously chosen a select few items from the haul that they are eager to introduce. Visitors can enjoy the experience of exploring each store, which offers a sense of eventfulness.
ACME Furniture Jiyugaoka
Under the theme "Milk Bottle," 51 bottles from the 1950s to 70s were acquired. As milk was perishable and brands varied by region, these bottles feature diverse designs and shapes, making them popular collector's items. Particularly noteworthy is a collection from the "White Cross Milk Company," a Boston-based firm that went bankrupt after only four years. Such a comprehensive display may not be seen again. They will be exhibited with plants, suggesting their use as single-stem vases.
ACME Furniture Meguro Dori
With the theme "Music," the selection includes items inspired by music, custom-made interior pieces incorporating instruments, and rare music event posters. The buyer's recommendation is a "Score" from the 1950s, likely used in elementary schools, positioned in the front right. It can be displayed as a tapestry on a wall or framed. The Meguro Dori store's window is currently featuring a display of these scores.
ACME Furniture Shibuya
The theme "Wall Ornament" focuses on wall hangings primarily from the 1960s. The high design quality shines through in the materials like brass and copper, reflecting the era's aesthetic, and the intricate craftsmanship. This collection highlights works by the artist unit "C.Jere" (Curtis Jere), with a focus on their pieces. While this artist may be less familiar in Japan, the items displayed on the second floor feature designs that vintage enthusiasts will likely recognize.
