Vitsœ's Vision, Felt in a Showroom That Feels Like Home

The "606 Universal Shelving System," designed by Dieter Rams in 1960 and continuously produced by Vitsœ for over 50 years; the "620 Chair Programme," designed by Rams for Vitsœ in 1962; and the "621 Side Table," also designed by Rams for Vitsœ in 1962, has been revived this year after a redesign.

The Vitsœ Tokyo showroom, an apartment-style space located behind the Nezu Museum, is elegantly furnished with these three items, conveying the brand's message of “Live better, with less that lasts longer” and an intimacy that suggests actual living.

Let's Start with a Small System

Once you understand the "606 Universal Shelving System," you can truly appreciate Rams's intention for it to be "timelessly durable." For example, the shelving in the household goods section of theMARGARET HOWELL SHOP & CAFE Futakotamagawastore, which opened on the second floor of Futakotamagawa Rise, also utilizes the "606 Universal Shelving System."

The "606 Universal Shelving System" is a modular system that allows for the addition and rearrangement of shelves and cabinets to fit any space. Its great appeal lies in its versatility, serving as a wall-mounted cabinet in living rooms, kitchens, dining rooms, bedrooms, and studies, adapting to any space and purpose.

Its design is not only functionally and visually superior but also easily reconfigurable for moves or relocations, ensuring it can adapt to changing lifestyles for long-term use. Furthermore, its use of environmentally friendly, recyclable aluminum and steel, assembled without adhesives or welding, aligns perfectly with contemporary needs.

The "620 Chair Programme," Redesigned and Improved Last Year

The "620 Chair Programme," originally designed in 1962, has garnered significant attention following its comprehensive redesign and improvement last year, with every part and process re-evaluated.

Available in low-back and high-back versions, the "620 Chair Programme" is a modular sofa system. It features a 66cm wooden frame with spring coils, topped with high-quality leather cushions, all housed within a metal shell.

The improved version incorporates a cushioning layer of coir fiber beneath the leather cushions and utilizes a hard plastic shell.

The "621 Side Table," Reissued After Approximately 30 Years

Furthermore, the "621 Side Table," designed by Rams in the same year as a companion piece to the "620 Chair Programme," has been redesigned and reissued after approximately 30 years, rejoining the collection.

The table, featuring a unique textured finish and meticulous attention to its plastic material, now includes adjustable legs, a feature not possible in the 1960s. Its modularity and flexibility, along with adjustable legs to accommodate uneven floors, enhance its user-friendliness.

Available in heights of 36cm and 45cm, and in off-white and black colors. Whether used as a side table, coffee table, or nightstand, its simple design invites versatile application.
