From the street fashion brand SSUR, known for collaborations with PALLADIUM, Carhartt, and CONVERSE, as well as the brand The CUT with Jamie Story (J MONEY), comes a highly anticipated new statue.

SSUR is the brainchild of designer Ruslan Karablin, born in Ukraine in 1969.

The brand name, an inversion of Ruslan's nickname "RUSS," subtly hints at the enduring traditions of his homeland, Russia. Inspired by Keith Haring and Stüssy, he began creating apparel with the desire to make his work accessible to a wider audience. By embedding cultural context into his creations, he strives to imbue the brand with deeper concepts and meaning.

MEDICOM TOY began its collaboration with SSUR in 2002, releasing various figures of SSUR's iconic rebel Ape and BE@RBRICKs inspired by the traditional Russian ceramics of Gzhel. The latest release, the "APVSHKIN STATUE," is a bust statue inspired by Alexander Pushkin (1799-1837), revered as the father of modern Russian literature, with RUSS's likeness. This is the newest addition to the series that began with "APETOVEN," inspired by Beethoven.

Pushkin is credited with establishing modern Russian language by abandoning the classical, normative literary style of his time and incorporating colloquialisms into his works. Gaining renown in the Russian literary world at a young age, he published his first work, "Ruslan and Ludmila," in 1820. Despite his prolific creative output across diverse genres, including the epic poem "The Prisoner of the Caucasus," the play "Boris Godunov," the novel in verse "Eugene Onegin," and "The Captain's Daughter" based on the Pugachev Rebellion, he was drawn into political struggles with court aristocrats who opposed his progressive ideas and passed away at the young age of 37.

The "APVSHKIN STATUE" is a crossover of Pushkin and the rebel Ape. The Ape mask is detachable, allowing it to be displayed with RUSS's face visible.
