Monetizing and Benefiting from CO2 Emissions Credits

“Eco-Megane” is here, enabling users to check their home’s electricity status anytime, anywhere on devices like PCs, smartphones, and mobile phones. It also facilitates the monetization and benefits of emissions credits, which were often overlooked, and allows for early detection of anomalies or failures in solar power generation systems.

The system works by attaching a dedicated sensor to the home’s electrical panel. Data accumulated on the “Eco-Megane” server is then accessible to users via their own devices through wireless LAN and the internet.

“Eco-Megane” visualizes household electricity consumption and solar power generation amounts by hour, day, and month through graphs, supporting efforts to save electricity and generate energy. It can display monetary values corresponding to various electricity plans from power companies, and incorporates features to enhance electricity-saving awareness by showing estimated monthly electricity purchase costs and comparisons with other users.

Regarding solar power generation status, it measures maximum and cumulative generation amounts, providing monthly monitoring reports that aid in the early detection of abnormalities in the generation system. Furthermore, through a service called “Eco-Flower,” it utilizes emissions credits generated using a method approved by the Japan Climate-Saving Initiative, enabling donations to environmental conservation activities or exchanges for eco-friendly goods. However, if you are currently enrolled in another domestic credit scheme, “Eco-Flower” cannot be used.

The price is ¥980 per month for sensor rental. For purchase, there is an initial fee of ¥31,500 and a monthly fee of ¥390, with applications accepted via the website. The company plans to expand the service by the end of 2011 to include general households not equipped with solar power systems, in response to the need for electricity conservation during winter.

The heightened awareness of electricity conservation that will likely be required going forward. The arrival of “Eco-Megane,” which allows users to grasp their home’s electricity status while enjoying the process, seems poised to become a powerful support tool for saving electricity and generating energy.
